Are Frenchies hypoallergenic? No, sadly most Frenchies are not hypoallergenic, however, some could be. Although, that is determined based on how they are bred, what traits they inherit and ultimately how much they shed.
However, there are several great hypoallergenic dog breeds on our list.

Are Frenchies Hypoallergenic?
A Quick Look at the French Bulldog:
Frenchies are smart, adaptable, and playful. They generally get along well with everyone and everything they meet.
French Bulldogs require little exercise. A short walk or romp in the yard is all they need. They can enjoy dog sports such as agility, rally, or obedience. They should not be expected to exert themselves too much in hot or humid weather, however.
As far as training is concerned Frenchies can be a bit stubborn. They can do well in training with positive reinforcement methods.
Be sure to keep training sessions short and fun. Always, quit before he wants to, to ensure interest in the next training session.
Where grooming is concerned the French Bulldog requires minimal work.
Weekly brushing with a medium bristle brush should be all that is needed. The face folds should be kept clean and dry as well. French Bulldogs shed minimally to moderately.
What Does Hypoallergenic Mean?
Hypoallergenic is a term that is often used for dogs like Poodles, doodles, and hairless breeds. Most people assume that these breeds will not cause an allergic reaction.
However, this is not true. Hypoallergenic simply means that these dogs are less likely to cause a reaction.
What Causes an Allergic Reaction?
Most allergic reactions are triggered by proteins. This is true with dog allergies. All dogs produce proteins known as Can f 1 and Can f 2. Typically the Can f 1 is the culprit for most allergic reactions.
Can f 1 is concentrated most in the saliva of dogs. It is also found in urine and dander of dogs. The dander often sticks to fur and this can make the fur cause an allergic reaction. This is why low-no shed breeds are considered hypoallergenic.
This is why I stated that Frenchies may or may not be hypoallergenic. Some French Bulldogs barely shed, combine this with their small size and they may be considered hypoallergenic.
Other French Bulldogs shed copious amounts year-round, these would not be hypoallergenic.
How to Reduce Dander:
You can take steps to reduce the amount of dander in your home and on your dog. Follow these tips to help reduce your chances of an allergic reaction:
- Brush your dog daily, outside
- Vacuum daily with a HEPA filter equipt vacuum cleaner
- Have a HEPA air filter for your home
- Have dog-free rooms
- Don’t let your dog on the furniture or in your bed
- Don’t touch your eyes or mouth after petting your dog
Conclusion
Hypoallergenic means that the dog is less likely to cause an allergic reaction. Most allergic reactions are caused by dog dander. That said, are Frenchies hypoallergenic?
Some could be considered hypoallergenic while others would not be. It all depends on how much they shed. Be sure to talk with and visit your French Bulldog breeder to see how much their dogs shed and if they aggravate your allergies.
