The Bernadoodles were bred intentionally by Sherry Rupke from the Swiss Ridge Kennels located in Canada. Some may not believe that this is the first time these two breeds have been together, Rupke made it well known in 2003.

American Kennel Club doesn’t recognize the Bernedoodles as a breed. There are other clubs that do recognize this breed as its own breed, especially with the overgrowing popularity of the breed.

The main reason for Sherry Rupke to place these two breeds together is for several reasons; their overall show appearance, they are good-natured breeds, they would look great together, and to have a unique looking coat.

One thing that was obvious during the first litters was the fact that several puppies in the litter looked different; they were different sizes and their coats looked different.

The appearance of this breed at first would depend on the genetic makeup being passed on by each of the parents. When the second generation was created, they found that the appearance and temperament of them were more predictable.

You may want to consider a doggie daycare for them during the time that you are gone so they can socialize with other dogs as well as humans.

You may also want to leave a blanket or a shirt with your scent on it so they can calm down when you leave them.

How Much Do Bernedoodles Shed?

This breed of animal is extremely easy to take care of when it comes to grooming.

You will need to brush out their coat one or two times each week due to their hair being curly.

If you don’t brush their coat, the curls can become matted and difficult to get brushed out. They can be trimmed once or twice a year in order to manage their curly fur.

To comb their hair, place them on the floor and using a comb, go over a section at a time until you get all of the fur combed out and looking nice.

If you run upon a tangle, spray it with water and comb easy repeatedly in the same location until the tangle releases and you are able to brush all the way through.

The fur doesn’t shed very much on this breed which is what makes them hypoallergenic.
